With strong winds forecast on Saturday afternoon when Northampton Saints welcome Castres to cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens, the Club have had to take down the stretch tent usually found in the Supporter Village.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for both wind and rain in the East Midlands. Storm Darragh is expected to impact large parts of the UK over the weekend, and with gusts in Northampton forecasted to exceed 50mph on Saturday, Saints have acted quickly to ensure the safety of all supporters present.
“The health and safety of our supporters and staff remains our number one priority,” said Kristy Coates, Head of Operations at Northampton Saints.
“With wet weather likely, removing shelter from the Supporter Village is not the Club’s preferred course of action, but the tent’s guidelines for safe use preclude us from using it as normal with such strong winds expected in Northampton.
“All the usual chairs and tables will remain in place inside the Village, all food and drinks units will be open as normal, and (safety permitting) the Inclusion Hub is also available to provide extra covered space – plus there are several large indoor bars around the stadium.
“We would also encourage everyone attending the match to check whether their travel plans might be affected by the weather, and to allow plenty of time to reach the ground.
“We are really excited to welcome a big crowd on Saturday for what is set to be a very exciting Investec Champions Cup match, and apologise for any inconvenience caused by the absence of the stretch tent in the Village.”
