Under-15s and Under-17s play development fixtures

It has been a busy few days for the Saints Academy with both the Under-15s and Under-17s in action.

The Under-15s travelled to Newark RFC on Bank Holiday Monday to take part in the Under-15s Academy Festival.

They played against each of the Northern Academies (Leicester, Sale, Newcastle, Worcester and Leeds), and Academy Coach Jon Curry was pleased with how things went: “We won two, lost two and drew one, but it was a very good day.

“As far as England are concerned, it’s very much the start of their selection process. As far as Saints are concerned, it’s just another development tool to see how the lads have progressed.”

The Under-17s, meanwhile, played against Wasps on Friday in a closely contested match which they lost by just a single point. Paul Diggin, Academy Coach, described the match as an opportunity for players to gain some valuable game time: “It was a mixture of our Under-16s players and our Under-17s who probably didn’t get as many chances as last year due to our Under-18s players.

“It’s just another opportunity for us to see those lads and another opportunity for them to show some of the skills and structures that we’ve put together in training. The sad thing is that it’s the last time we will see them now until the start of pre-season in July!”
