The Saints made 12 changes to their starting XV at Welford Road and while a period of scrum dominance ultimately counted against them, the men in lime produced a committed and proud display.
"I thought we really battled well," Mallinder told SaintsTV. "We played some good rugby and had a chance to come back in to it at the end - unfortunately it wasn't to be. Overall though I was really pleased with the performances of some of the younger lads and it was a good opportunity for us to give game time to players who held their hands up for selection next week, which is going to be a cracking match.
"We know each other pretty well and Saracens are a great side. We've had some pretty close matches against them not just this season, but over the past few years as well so it's a match we'll all look forward to.
"To be at Franklin's Gardens is a massive advantage, but it certainly doesn't mean that you're going to win the game. There's so much more work to do, but being at home obviously gives you the best chance."
