Three Northampton Saints players have been selected in the England U19 Men’s side to take on Scotland this weekend.
Jonny Weimann and Aiden Ainsworth-Cave start at scrum-half and at second row respectively, while James Pater is among the replacements for Saturday’s encounter (kick-off: 2pm) at Percy Park RFC.
Weimann, who made his Gallagher Premiership debut for Saints as a replacement against Leicester Tigers in March, returns to Newcastle where he made his U20 debut during February’s 57-13 win over Scotland at Kingston Park.
Pater is among the players rewarded for their performances for the U18s with an age-grade promotion for this fixture.
The U19 Men side serves as an avenue for England Rugby pathway players to develop their skillsets with meaningful gametime on the international circuit, with fixtures also giving valuable minutes to players then eligible for U20 selection in the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy.
Head coach Andy Titterrell said: “Following on from last weekend, our main objective is to abide by our principles of keeping the ball moving and knowing when to attack the space we see in front of us.
“The experience away from home to France was significant to the development of this young squad. They gave a positive account of themselves in many aspects, but our messaging is to level up our intensity.
“That determination, combined with another opportunity to showcase their talent, will motivate our players to conclude our spring programme positively in a big home fixture against Scotland.”
