Northampton Saints Academy are delighted to announce a new partnership with Impington Village College.
The Cambridgeshire establishment is in the top-100 state schools in the United Kingdom, and its Sixth Form (Impington International College) commenced a Rugby Scholarship Programme in 2022.
They participate in the AOC Leagues against the likes of Samuel Whitbread Academy, City of Oxford College and Henley College.
Saints Academy is now coming on board to build on those foundations and add a second state school to its portfolio, following the successful link formed with Moulton College in 2023.
“We want to make sure we are giving the best offering we can to state school boys across our region,” said Mark Hopley, Head of Academy at Saints.
“Impington Village College is a really good state school and gives us a presence in the middle part of our catchment region, with it also having good transport links for those in the Huntingdonshire and Peterborough areas.
“Our ultimate aim is to have a state school in each of our county regions and continue to grow the game, giving as many opportunities as we can to rugby players throughout our region to make it to the very highest level.”
Mark Hopley, Head of Academy
Impington Village College has an international sixth form – Impington International College – educating pupils aged 16-19 from a mix of nations and cultures.
Impington International College is the UK’s top non-selective provider of International Baccalaureate programmes (Sunday Times Parent Power 2021), and has been offering a world-class education to its students for over 30 years.
The school offers impactful study options which focus on the development of the whole student, including a wide range of extra-curricular activities and an emphasis on outstanding pastoral care.
Leanne Gibbons, Assistant Principal and Head of Sixth Form at Impington International College, said: “Impington’s rugby scholarship programme has been going from strength to strength, and we now host students who play at a high level of competitive rugby.
“With Northampton Saints being the current Premiership champions, working in partnership with them to continue the growth of our rugby scholarship programme reflects the ambition we have for our provision and our students.”
Leanne Gibbons, Assistant Principal
“Offering an elite sports performance programme as part of our International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme and our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme will serve to forge a stronger holistic approach to the education of our scholarship students and to create wider opportunities for their futures.
“So, for us, what is extremely exciting in this partnership are the opportunities it will create for our students, and the support the collaboration will give us in growing our rugby scholarship programme.”
