Hosting the second session of their Coach Education CPD Programme on Monday night, Northampton Saints welcomed Russell Earnshaw to Franklin’s Gardens with the former England Under-18s coach imparting his wisdom to coaches from across the county.
Delivering practical outdoor training as well as offering advice in a Q&A session, Earnshaw lead the group of nearly one hundred local school and club coaches, with the focus being how to get the best out of training.
Joined by Saints Community coaches, the former England coach took the lead in a practical session with members of the Saints Academy, explaining to those attending what various skills might look like in game practices.
And Saints Academy Coach Development Officer Tim Grimsey is delighted with how the programme is shaping up this season and the reaction from local coaches.
“The evening was a great success,” he said.
“It was fantastic to see so many local coaches wanting to develop and improve; and it was brilliant to have Russell here to help us deliver that.
“Our aim is to continue the education of our affiliated coaches and further their ability to train the next generation of rugby players. After all, great rugby players come from great coaching and the earlier we can start that process the better.
“We’ve got plenty more sessions coming up and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the programme develops.”
