Northampton Saints inclusion officer Jamie Higgins is relishing the prospect of getting more women and girls into wheelchair rugby at a special taster session on Saturday 25 January.
Higgins, head coach of Saints Wheelchair Rugby, has struck up a partnership with GB Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) to deliver an event at Moulton College for disabled women and girls aged 12 or over – and their friends – at all levels of experience.
“This event will allow women and girls from the Midlands to experience the sport with females like themselves.”

The free training will help players develop their skills, have fun and socialise with other female players.
All equipment, including rugby wheelchairs, will be provided along with high-quality coaching, plus complimentary coffee and cake afterwards – so participants need only bring drinking water!
“I am really pleased that Northampton Saints are able to support this GBWR event,” said Higgins.
“Many groups of women are underrepresented in competitive sport and this is even more so for women with disabilities.
“This event will allow women and girls from the Midlands to experience the sport with females like themselves and see how they can get involved in Wheelchair Rugby at all levels, culminating with the opportunity to show their ability next month in a demonstration game at the Quad Nations.”
Paul Arnold, GBWR’s regional development officer, added: “This really exciting opportunity is part of Wheelchair Rugby’s contribution to the Sport England ‘This Girl Can’ campaign.
“Although Wheelchair Rugby is a mixed sport, we want to provide new and existing female players the opportunity to come together, train, have fun and build a social connection.
“This is the first of several female-only sessions taking place across the country, finishing with a female-only demonstration game at the Quad Nations in Leicester.
“We really hope we can encourage as many disabled women and girls as possible in the Midlands to come and have a go at this brilliant sport.”
Please note that those aged under 18 years will need a parent / legal guardian to complete an activity consent form.
