Saints secured their spot in the Premiership Rugby Cup quarter-finals with their results throughout February, with resounding wins over Coventry (50-23) and Nottingham (33-66) sealing their place at the top of Pool 3 despite a disappointing loss to Leicester Tigers (54-33) on the road.
With those clashes in mind, Saints’ coaches have selected five nominees for the monthly award; Fyn Brown, Billy Pasco, Ed Prowse, Charlie Savala and Angus Scott-Young.
Back row Brown featured in all three of Saints’ clashes in February, starting against Tigers and Coventry before coming off the bench at Nottingham – making some 25 carries across the month and hitting 30 attacking rucks, while also scoring a try at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.
After making his debut in the first round of Cup clashes, centre Pasco brought his tally of appearances in Black, Green and Gold to four as he featured in all three of Saints’ outings in February. The 19-year-old scored a maiden senior try for Saints against Coventry and excelled on both sides of the ball, hitting 36 attacking rucks, making 19 tackles and securing a turnover in each of the three matches.
In the second row, Prowse started all three matches in February at lock for Saints and got through plenty of work on both sides of the ball – making 44 tackles, 10 carries and hitting an impressive 67 attacking rucks throughout the month.
Savala’s highlight in February was undoubtedly his hat-trick of scores against Nottingham, but the centre also impressed away from the tryline making 14 tackles and 35 carries across the three matches.
Finally, Scott-Young captained Saints throughout their final Cup pool rounds, leading from the front as he made 41 tackles, 25 carries and hitting 48 attacking rucks across the month.
