Sports Scientist

DEPARTMENT: Athletic Performance
CONTRACT: Full-time (35 hours per week). Some matchday (weekend) work will be required.
SALARY: Competitive
LOCATION: cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton, NN5 5BG. Travel as required to fulfil duties.
REPORTS TO: Head of Athletic Performance

MAIN PURPOSE:
Northampton Saints are recruiting a new Sports Scientist. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual who wants to work in an elite sporting environment.

REMIT:
You will be asked to lead on all processes that enable decision making regarding the management and preparation of the Northampton Saints squad. To stay up to date with current practice across all aspects of physical preparation and performance and provide insights and direction to future practice. The successful candidate will work alongside performance support staff to interrogate and analyse data to provide insight and improve performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The collection and analysis of all sports science data.
  • Work closely with Head of Athletic Performance and Rugby coaches to support and deliver consistent message.
  • Work alongside medical department to ensure effective return to play.
  • Stay up to date with best practice.
  • Assist with Mouthguard data collection and analysis.
  • Manage RFU injury audit.
  • Manage a Sport Science University placement student.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A degree in Sport Science or a related field.
  • Experience in the collection, analysis and reporting of sport science data.
  • A detailed knowledge of, and experience in, the use of data collection technologies such as Stat Sports, Push Bands, Hawkins Dynamics, Optojump and Nordbord.
  • Understand the demands of professional rugby.
  • Well organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to start at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.
