Five Loughborough Lightning players have been named in England U20 Women’s first training squad of the 2024/25 season.
Head coach LJ Lewis and assistant coach Sarah McKenna have selected 32 players who will assemble at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre next Monday 20 January for a three-day camp following the conclusion of Round 14 of Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR).
Amongst them are Lightning players Lucy Calladine, Carmela Morrall and Amelia Williams who are among the 11 squad members who have previous caps at U20 level. Also joining in the U20 squad are Lightning teammates Lucy Finch and Keevy Fitzpatrick.
28 of the 32 selected players have previous caps for England in the Women’s Pathway, with 20 squad members accumulating 112 PWR appearances this season alone.
The U20 Women’s squad will reconvene at Loughborough University next month for a four-day camp held between 3rd and 6 thFebruary. Upcoming fixtures for England U20 Women will be communicated in due course.
LJ Lewis said: “We’re delighted to confirm the first squad of the season after some time away from action in camp. Selection has been a diligent and challenging process, and I want to congratulate all involved this week.
“The performances of the included players for their clubs have been incredibly encouraging and all the staff are eager to get involved with a very promising group. The training camps scheduled in the coming months are designed to reward that form and to take a step into international rugby for these young players.
“From Monday and through to the summer, our expectations will remain at the very top standard as we look to elevate our processes with intensity, mindset and bonding as a unit.”
