Northampton Saints has teamed up with Premiership Rugby and Movember to be one of the first Aviva Premiership clubs chosen to launch a national programme aimed at improving the health and well-being of men aged between 35 and 55.
Based on a similar successful programme in Scotland, MOVE Like A Pro is designed to reduce obesity and its associated health risks, while at the same time giving participants the framework to improve their physical and mental well-being over the long-term.
Sessions will be tailored to the needs of participants, with an emphasis on group development and creating a supportive environment.
MOVE Like A Pro will have its first session in the week commencing February 22nd, with two enrolment weeks beforehand.
The majority of the sessions will be based in the Members’ Bar at Franklin’s Gardens, with some sessions either taking place elsewhere in the stadium or off-site as the need arises.
Sessions will last two hours and will be led by members of the Saints’ community team. Sessions will be free to attend, but a level of commitment to complete the 12-week programme is expected from participants.
MOVE Like A Pro is a basic level health and fitness programme aimed at men who are currently inactive and overweight.
“MOVE Like A Pro is all about using these first 12 weeks as the first step into a permanent change of lifestyle,” said Saints community officer Connor Fleming. “There are plenty of programmes either aimed at or primarily attended by women, which makes MOVE Like A Pro pretty special, and we’re delighted to be one of the first clubs chosen to run it.
“Being active is one of the best things you can do for your health, and a team environment provides a natural support network for everyone on the MOVE Like A Pro programme. We’ll be combining physical exercise with the education about nutrition and lifestyle to make sure that the short-term gains last long into the future.”
