Over 30 Northampton Hitz students visited Nimlok, designers and builders of high quality and innovative trade show displays. They discovered what it was like to work in all areas of their workplace, including observing the same Health and Safety regulations as regular employees.
Whittlebury Hall, an elegant hotel and spa in the heart of the English countryside, opened their doors for the students to see the ins and outs of everyday life in the services industry. The HITZ students saw how customer relations and Health and Safety were managed and how Whittlebury Hall make their customer experience 5 stars from booking to departure.
Finally, the HITZ students also paid a visit to TMI Foods, which provided them with a snapshot of how national distribution functions. This trip came with its own reward: a sample of just a few of the more than 110 types of bacon available!
A key element of the three trips was the continued focus on how, even without fantastic qualifications, young people can still find work. All three businesses stressed how important it was for them to see that someone was hard working, reliable, and disciplined, rather than purely GCSE results.
