Saints Wheelchair Rugby coach Jamie Higgins is delighted with his side’s development this term as the side round off their first season in the top flight of British Wheelchair Rugby 5s later this month.
After gaining promotion to the Premiership following last year’s successful campaign, Saints Wheelchair Rugby took part in only their second competition in the top tier last month – locking horns with West Country Hawks, Ospreys A and B and Team Solent Sharks before facing Stoke Mandeville Maulers.
And two victories in the tournament means Saints now sit in sixth position in the league as they head into the Finals Weekend at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on 31 August and 1 September.
“We’re taking big steps forward every time we play and I’m delighted with how the side are handling this first year in the Premiership,” Higgins said.
“It was never going to be an easy season but I’m really pleased with the grit and determination the team have shown so far and to get wins over Ospreys and Sharks last time out was really pleasing.
“We’re pitting ourselves against the best in the country and still performing well and that’s the most important thing. Now I’m looking forward to rounding the season off with more good performances in the Finals Weekend.”
