Dowson, Elliott, Fotuali’i shortlisted for February Steffans Player of the Month award

With Dylan Hartley away with England, captaincy duties in February have fallen to Phil Dowson, and he has led the first team with aplomb. Not only has the team itself been unbeaten during the month but Dowson’s own performances have been outstanding. The man of the match in the victory at Exeter, Dowson carried the ball an average of 12 times per match and had a 100 percent success rate with his tackling in the wins over Worcester and Newcastle.

Wing Jamie Elliott has gone about his business in typical unfussy style, putting in one top notch performance after another. The leading ball carrier for the Saints so far in the 2013/14 Aviva Premiership campaign, Elliott was an attacking threat throughout February, beating six defenders in all and making 161 metres in his 37 ball carries.

Scrum-half Kahn Fotuali’i came into his own during February, managing the forwards and releasing the backs with equal measure. The Samoan started three of the four games and was a threat to the opposition both around the fringes and when competing for the ball on the floor, where he has won more turnovers than any other Saint this season.

Although the three players have been shortlisted by the club’s coaches, it is the supporters who decide who will take home the TW Steel watch that comes with the accolade of Player of the Month!
