Northampton Saints’ Alex Mitchell has been named the cinch Player of the Month for September – with the scrum-half’s stellar performances putting him on top of the hotly-contested supporter vote.
With Saints’ Gallagher Premiership clashes against Sale Sharks, London Irish and Leicester Tigers as well as London Irish again in the Premiership Rugby Cup being taken into account, it was Mitchell who claimed the first award of the new season after beating fellow nominees Alex Coles, George Furbank and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto in the most evenly split vote in the history of the Club’s Player of the Month award.
What a special player @alexmitchell97 is.

You won't see many better assists than this one for our opening try this afternoon 🔥 pic.twitter.com/EAeTkqdOVr
Mitchell – who landed 30% of the supporter voting – picked up just where he left off after a standout 2021/22 campaign with two tries and one remarkable assist to his name (against London Irish which saw a brilliant chip-and-chase followed up by an inch-perfect pass over the top to Juarno Augustus).
Throughout the season, cinch will also be offering up a range of prizes for those who vote for the award, with one lucky supporter each month selected at random after voting closes.
This month’s winner was Caroline Johnson, who was selected at random out of over 500 supporters who voted on the cinch Player of the Month award to win £50 worth of Saints Store vouchers.
